The Structural Retrofitting and Reconstruction Research Group was established in 1995, at the Centre for Natural Disaster Mitigation Studies of Iran. Its foundation was suggested by the Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution and approved by the Board of Trustees. Since 2004, following the approval of the statute of the Natural Disasters Research Institute by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, this research group has been operating.
The key activities of this research group, consist of qualitative and quantitative vulnerability assessment, proposing reinforcement and rehabilitation plans for structures and lifelines, engineering and laboratory services, damage assessment of buildings and infrastructures and their reconstruction methods following disasters.
Consulting and providing engineering services in all aspects of structural retrofitting and reconstruction, proposing pragmatic recommendations and solutions, assisting in their implementation for disaster risk mitigation, and conducting theoretical and laboratory studies in these areas, are the main objectives of this Group.
