the 29th meeting of disaster management series was held

the 29th meeting of disaster management series with the subject of "Lessons learned in disaster management from the 2023 Earthquake in Türkiye with emphasis on response stage (report on visits to earthquake-stricken areas of Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş and Hatay)" by the Natural Disasters Research Institute and UNESCO chair on natural disasters management with the presence of more than 550 officials, professors and enthusiasts was held online.

According to the Public Relations office of the Natural Disasters Research Institute (NDRI), the 29th meeting of disaster management series with the subject of "Lessons learned in disaster management from the 2023 Earthquake in Türkiye with emphasis on response stage (report on visits to earthquake-stricken areas of Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş and Hatay)" by the Natural Disasters Research Institute and UNESCO chair on natural disasters management with the presence of more than 550 officials, professors and enthusiasts was held online.

Seyed AmirHossein Garakani, head of the NDRI, noted that: The disaster management system in Türkiye enjoy transparency, simplicity and integrity. In addition to the task of coordination, it was also responsible for the headquarters and executive, and its components had a proper and pre-planned layout, and the Red Crescent was fully responsible for supporting the state disaster management.

According to the pre-trained guidelines, the need to attract foreign aid at the declared level (level 4) was already specified and action was taken, and besides observing security issues, the availability of facilities and ease of access for foreign aid workers was evident.

Security in the quake-hit areas was provided at a high level, and law enforcement was active in this area with great seriousness and rigor. The quake-hit area had been evacuated completely, not compulsory, and people had been housed in certain hotels, hostels and campsites. In this regard, paying attention to evacuation policy, especially in metropolises, is of particular importance.

In emergency accommodation, two-layered tents with spatial division with heating facilities were used. Food, sanitary and pharmaceutical items were abundantly available in camps around the city, and people could get their required items as much as they needed. The restrooms were also abundantly located in pre-located locations connected to urban egos.

The vision of crisis management in Turkey was not based on the rapid repatriation of people and the rapid reopening of shops and stores, and largely emphasized the evacuation of the city. It seems that this view in metropolises is a correct procedure that we should pay attention to.

NGOs and celebrities played a very important role, such as psychological support and food distribution, and the cash donations collected by them were deposited into the government's account.

In order to try to calm and transition from emergency space, the media is obliged to publish promising news and otherwise face fines.

In relation to the community-based disaster management that is emphasized in Iran, it is essential to note that the participatory program should be developed in full and in specific detail, and especially in metropolises, the role of government in disaster management should be key and more pronounced.
